Saudi Arabia

Mount Arafat (جبل عرفات)

Pictures of mount Arafat (also known as Mount of Mercy (Jabal ar-Rahmah)) during my recent trip to Saudi Arabia.  According to Islamic tradition, the hill is the place where the Islamic prophet Muhammad stood and delivered the Farewell sermon to the Muslims who had accompanied him for the Hajj towards the end of his life.

Also the 9th day of Dhul-Hijjah (the Month of Hajj) is called the Day of Arafat. During the entire day, from dawn until sunset, Muslim pilgrims stand in earnest supplication and devotion on Mount Arafat, praying for God’s abundant forgiveness.
